At a glance, Solia flat iron and CHI are even. Both brands are considered numero uno by professionals. Both offer their customers superior styling capability. But for the sake of comparison, here are some relevant notes on the two brands.
Basing on temperature settings, materials and construction, cost and value and customer reviews, the following are given.
On temperature settings, the CHI original comes with only one setting- 370 degrees. Solia features a range of temperature settings from 140 to 150 degrees. So what has this got to do with hair type? CHI’s set temperature of 370 degrees may prove a bit weak for coarser hair type and cranking the SOLIA way up can flatten and style even the thickest mane.
On materials and construction, CHI uses ceramic plate technology which is non-damaging to the hair and provides even, moist heat and negative ions. SOLIA uses tourmaline in addition to ceramic plates. Tourmaline, a mineral also considered a semi-precious stone, generates high levels of negative ion which enhance hair and produce infra- red heat to dry hairs from the inside out. This means even less damage and faster styling even when the hair is damp.
In short, both flat irons offer less damage than traditional aluminum plated irons. SOLIA, for using tourmaline, wins this round.
On the weight, both flat irons use cutting edge technology and construction to provide consumers with faster, non-damaging styling tool possible. The CHI Original weighs two pounds while SOLIA weighs one pound. Using ceramic technology means that both flat irons heat quickly and maintain even heat throughout styling. But SOLIA offers the Dynamic Alignment System, with the plates self adjusting to provide perfect coverage of hair eliminating damage and pressure points. CHI does not have this feature.
On cost, value and warranty, both brands belong to the higher end. In other words, these brands do not come in cheap. CHI is priced between $100 to $190. It can only work in the US and Canada because of 110 voltage. It cannot, therefore, be used in foreign countries even with converters. CHI has no warranty on flat irons bought through the Internet, only a one year warranty on those bought in professional salons.
The SOLIA is priced at $ 140. It may be available from Amazon and Folica for $85. It has a variety of voltage from 110 to 120. It can be used in a variety of locations.
On consumer reviews, CHI, generally, receives 4.14 rating out of 5 stars. SOLIA has 4.5 out of 5. The main complaint on CHI is when it starts to have electrical trouble like the iron failing to turn on or heating up. The other main complaint is the lack of temperature control. Some found the iron too strong for finer hair and felt it cause damage.
SOLIA reviews seem more positive. And the winner is……SOLIA.
